When you lay something out, you need text before the real text exists. That's exactly what Lorem Ipsum is for: a generator that hands you placeholder text in the amount and shape your draft needs right now — and in a way that won't distract you while proofreading, because it doesn't pretend to be real content.

You pick a language, a length unit, and an amount, click Generate, and instantly get placeholder text — either as plain running text or as ready-formatted Markdown with headings, lists, and emphasis. You can tweak the text right in the output field, copy it to the clipboard, or download it as a file.

The tool is built for everyone who fills layouts with content before the real content is ready: designers populating wireframes and mockups; developers testing templates, components, and CMS fields; and content and editorial people who want to gauge how a text reads at a given length. Everything runs in the browser — no account, no installation.

What you can set

Four controls determine the result:

  • Text Variant — the language of the placeholder text: Lorem Ipsum (Latin) (default), English, or Deutsch.
  • Output Format — Plain Text (plain running text) or Markdown (with headings, lists, blockquotes, and inline formatting).
  • Length Unit plus Amount — the length unit (Paragraphs, Words, or Characters) and the corresponding quantity.
  • Start with "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…" — an option that forces the classic opener. It applies only to the Latin variant and is hidden for English/German.

Three buttons handle the rest: Generate produces (or refreshes) the text, Copy puts it on the clipboard, Export downloads it as a .txt or .md file.

True generation vs. a fixed sentence pool

One important, honest difference between the languages — it explains why the variants behave differently:

  • Latin is assembled word by word from a pool of roughly 200 classic Lorem Ipsum words. Sentences and paragraphs are built fresh every time, with random commas and lengths — genuine, variable filler text.
  • English and German, by contrast, draw from a fixed stock of 35 complete, pre-written sentences each (all on IT/web topics). They're shuffled and strung together but not generated word by word. With larger amounts the sentences therefore repeat.

That's not a shortcoming but a deliberate design choice: readable, on-topic placeholder text instead of pseudo-Latin when you want to test how a German or English layout looks.

Architecture: entirely in the browser

Lorem Ipsum is a purely client-side tool. All text generation runs locally in your browser via JavaScript — there's no server request, no upload, no tracking of your input. Generating, copying, and exporting work without a network connection once the page has loaded.
